*****Marine Corps League Carolina Borders Detachment 1036 Minutes March 10, 2015***** The meeting was called to order at 7pm. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the POW/MIA ceremony.------ Officers present were Commandant Scott Slater, Sr. Vice Commandant John Russo, Jr. Vice Commandant Chuck Tinkham, Paymaster Lee Schell, Judge Advocate Frank Rinchich, Chaplain Bill Danford, Sgt. At Arms Mike Morales, Adjutant Shirley Rust and Jr. Past Commandant Richard Rust.------ There were no applications for membership.------ The minutes of the February meeting were posted to the website. Tom Perrone made a motion to accept the minutes as written. The motion was 2nd and approved.------ We received a letter from Old Dock School to thank us for the 0.00 donation we gave them. Lee Schell gave the financial report. A letter was also received asking for a donation for NC Vets Corps United Way of Cape Fear. Tom Perrone made a motion to NOT give. Richard Rust 2nd the motion. Motion passed.------ Mike Pyle and Glen Schaeffer are still ill. Chaplain will call them.------ An audit of the finances will be done before the newly elected officers take office. This audit will be done by Sr. Vice Commandant John Russo, Jr. Past Commandant Richard Rust, and Paymaster Lee Schell. Commandant Scott Slater will do the budget to be presented at the next meeting.------ Everything is set for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.------ Our color guard is not needed for the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Cemetery.------ There are 2 applications for scholarships.------ Events Coordinator Jack Cosgrove updated everyone on the coming events and stated that we need to find a replacement. He is resigning from that position to spend more time with family. Jack will be delivering the Easter meals.------ The Golf Tournament committee met last Thursday.------ JROTC awards recipients have been chosen and the awards will be given in April. Jack Cosgrove is in charge of presenting the awards in NC. Tom Perrone will present the one in SC.------ Planning has already begun on the Birthday Ball. The date is November 7. Entertainment has been secured. Negotiations are on- going for a place and ideas for raising funds are being discussed.------ Richard Rust will continue to be the Toys For Tots Coordinator for Brunswick and Columbus Counties and Scott Slater will be his assistant.------ The trip is still on for New River.------ The Low Country rifle range at 905 Thomasboro Road can be used from 10 am to 4 pm. The cost is .00 per person.------ Elections began: 21 members were present. 18 voting members were present and 3 non voting members.------ Judge Advocate: Bill Danford was nominated by the election committee Unopposed. Richard Rust cast 1 vote for Bill.------ Jr. Vice Commandant: Lew Johnson and John Russo were nominated by the election committee. Lew Johnson was elected with a majority of 14 votes.------ Sr. Vice Commandant: Frank Rinchich was nominated by the committee. Richard Rust nominated John Russo from the floor. John Russo was elected with a majority of 14 votes.------ Commandant: Jerry Branscome was nominated by the committee. Unopposed. Rick Fornicari cast 1 vote for Jerry Branscome.------ Commandant Scott Slater asked Lee Schell if he would like to remain Paymaster.------ Mike Morales was asked if he would like to remain Sgt. At Arms------ Shirley Rust was asked if she would like to remain Adjutant------ All 3 replied yes.------ We did not have a volunteer for Chaplain. Although everyone answered yes it is still subject to the approval of the new Commandant.------ Closing ceremony and adjournment was at 8pm.-------- Respectfully Submitted By Shirley Rust, Adjutant
